Merry Monday!

Merry Monday TeamStars!
“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” (Michael Jordan)
Sport really pushes us to our limits, it tests our strength, encourages our resilience and it enables us to stretch the power of our minds. We’ve all been talking about what we learn from sport from Tim Noakes and about all the good South African news from Steuart Pennington’s presentation. So when we mix these two together we come up with great South African sport J

Did you know?

We hold the world’s largest swimming event, the Midmar Mile, every February, this event draws the globe’s greatest swimmers. Cape Town’s Argus race is the largest individually times cycling event in the world.  Staying on cycling, The Absa Cape Epic is the world’s most broadcast mountain bike event, gaining mass interest from global viewers. The Berg River Canoe Marathon is recognized at the world’s toughest canoe marathon. And most recently held, the Comrades Marathon, is the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon race – which I’m pleased to share, was won by a South African man this year and was completed by our very own Andrew Roberts (Go Andy!!!)

Why is this important? Well, it shows that South Africans are people who compete for excellence and who can endure and succeed. We’re people who push ourselves to our limits. We’re people who want the world to recognise our abilities.  We do it on the sport’s field and we do it in endurance races, now it’s time for us to do it in our organisations. Let’s get ready for the hard work, set our minds to success and keep pushing ourselves to our limits. Let’s (as Nike puts it) do it!

“Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts”. (Dan Gable)
Have a wonderful week TeamStars!

Cheers,
Joanne Sharpe
